The Food & Beverage Innovation Launch Pad

The Food System is Broken.

The failure rate for new innovations in food and beverage continues to increase, where over 85% of all new innovations fail.

Those that succeed are often uninspired, and only succeed in making us less well.

With epidemic levels of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease - the epidemiological data is conclusive, we are getting sicker, faster.

We think there is a better way to create commercially successful innovation, that also contributes positively to our overall wellbeing.

So we’re doing something about it.

Unconventionally Excellent

Recipe for Tmrw is a new breed of growth partner, designed to invent, launch, and scale food and beverage brands, quickly, efficiently, and elegantly - for ourselves and our advisory partners.

We are operators and entrepreneurs - not theorists, so we understand how to make things that people actually value.

Our mission is to measurably improve the health of people and the planet by transforming the way food and beverage companies interact with and create value within the broader food system.

We are a motley crew of misfits, compassionate by nature, intrepid by choice, and unconventionally excellent as a consequence.

Who We Are

I woke up this morning and thought - I can’t wait to hire a consultant today
— No One Ever

We are The Food and Beverage Innovation Launch Pad. What is that you ask? We made it up by combing the best bits from;

positioning+Ven+Diagram.jpg

By borrowing the best bits of each (and getting rid of the dogma and most of the decks), we’re a unique partner that creates and shapes markets.

We are food zealots, operators, cultural anthropologists, food founders, futurists, farmers, chefs, inventors, investors, doctors, food scientists, brand builders, co-manufacturers, food designers, nutritionists, and packaging engineers, who all want to make food better, and make better food.

>$1B in value created

This isn’t our first rodeo. The Recipe for Tmrw team has collectively built strategy, launched new innovations, collaborated with the biggest players in the world of food, and have now built our own firm to fill a gap in the market.

Measurably improve the health of people and the planet by transforming the way food and beverage companies interact with and create value within the broader food system.

What We Do

We combine the practicality of operators who have actually created businesses in the F&B space, the inductive reasoning of traditional strategy consultancies, the creative abstract reasoning of design firms, the market prognostication of futures think tanks.

We only do the things we think we’re pretty damn good at. This boils down to three offerings;

OFFERING Ven Diagram.jpg

Invent Breakthrough Products & Brands

We help define “where to play” to provide you with the greatest competitive advantage. This requires the ability to define and articulate value propositions that make people’s hearts flutter, business model design that takes a systems approach to value creation, and good old fashioned hard work.

Typical questions we’rE asked

  • We need help understanding what the future of (x) category or market shift means for us.

  • What are the big bets or “where to play” choices we should be making in the next 3-5 years?

  • How can we create and capture value in the explosive world of snacking, grazing, mini-meals

  • We’re a big food company, how can we create and capture value in the “personalized nutrition” space?

  • Epigenetic trends don’t lie, we need to be making better food, can you help us rethink our supply chain?

  • Our innovation pipeline consists mainly of safe bets and “me too” products, we need help pushing our thinking.

Commercialize Products and Brands

When we develop products for ourselves and our partners we obsesses about finding the magic in the mess. This means we identify what makes a product most valuable, and then hold it sacrosanct as we move through the gauntlet of product development, as trade offs are a certainty - but we should never cost reduce the magic.

We have a diverse team of developers including; chefs, food scientists, packaging engineering, packaging designers, commercial analysts, who work fast, and enjoy a gnarly challenge.

Typical questions we’RE asked

  • We have a great idea, but need help with recipe formulation

  • We just don’t have TIME to pursue this ourselves so we need a partner who can provide a full-turn key solution

  • The Brand is just ‘meh’ how do we revitalize it for greater relevance?

  • We aren’t sure the best way to test the product so we get insights we can actual use

  • Our packaging is a bit stale, we need help refreshing it so it’s more relevant

Invest in High Potential Start Ups

We’re entrepreneurs and operators, so we have been there (and are probably there right now).

We partner with founders to create products that people love. We focus on Strategic Partnerships and Seed Funding because we believe in our ability to identify ideas with the potential to make meaningful change in people’s lives, while being aligned to our mission of making food better and making better food.

We also have capabilities and experience to provide a great deal of value, beyond capital.

TYPICAL QUESTIONS WE’RE ASKED

  • We don’t just want money, we want a partner who brings TANGIBLE skills to the table as well.

  • We have this great idea but aren’t sure the best way to launch it.

  • There are so many opportunities, how do we know which are the right ones?

  • We NEED HELP DEFINING OUR VISION AND GROWTH STORY TO RAISE CAPITAL

  • We need help with brand development and go to market.

Our Partners

Our team has the privilege of collaborating with some of the most forward thinking and ambitious companies in the world.

How We Work

Tomorrow is in our name, so we couldn’t very well just rely on the business models and operating paradigms of the past.

$$ Where our Mouth is

We have a unique business model that helps to de-risk the partnership. We believe that by putting a portion of our fee or investment ‘at risk’ based on your achievement of commercial milestones, creates the right behaviours and motivations (in addition to saving you some cash).

The Best Ingredients

If legacy professional services companies designed their organizations from scratch today we’re confident their operating models would look considerably different. We have that benefit, so we’ve designed our organization around a lean team that work exclusively for RFT, and the rest of our operators and misfits come from…you guessed it, the gig economy.

This allows us to put only the absolute right people, with the requisite unique capabilities, on your problems, every, single, time (not the people we happen to have available).

We’ve invested in a digital tool that allows us to identify these people from a deep pool of potential operators, and we get it right, like 120% of the time. Think of this tool as our version of Ceribro - for innovators (without the geodesic dome, fancy helmet, and posh accent).

Proprietary Methodologies are Bull$h%t.

We didn’t invent a fancy sounding methodology, instead we use the Strategic Choice Cascade and Jobs to Be Done frameworks. They work, and people way smarter than us have already sorted out the bugs.

We do however believe in a few operating principles that we leverage on all problems;

  1. Get Smart Fast

  2. Obsess About the Problem

  3. Think in Systems

  4. Find the Future, Now

  5. Leverage Existing Assets

  6. Make it Interesting

  7. Test Often

  8. Take Measured Risks

  9. Don’t be Fancy
